Award Winning Actors commit to Seven Days in Utopia Movie
ROBERT DUVALL AND LUCAS BLACK TEAM UP FOR THIRD TIME IN SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA
Academy Award-winner Duvall and Black joined by Deborah Ann Woll, Brian Geraghty and Melissa Leo
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 29, 2010) – Production began today on SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA, the feature film adaptation of Dr. David L. Cook’s best-selling book, Golf’s Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia. Directed by Matthew Dean Russell, SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA marks the third teaming for stars Lucas Black and Robert Duvall, who have previously worked together in Sling Blade and are currently starring in Sony Pictures Classics’ upcoming release Get Low.
Duvall and Black will be joined on location in Fredericksburg and Utopia, Texas, by Deborah Ann Woll (HBO’s True Blood), Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker) and Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo (Frozen River). The feature adaptation was written by Russell, Cook and Rob Levine.
SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA follows the story of Luke Chisolm (Black), a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. When his first big shot turns out to be a very public disaster, Luke escapes the pressures of the game and finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Utopia, Texas, home to eccentric rancher Johnny Crawford (Duvall). But Johnny’s more than meets the eye, and his profound ways of looking at life force Luke to question not only his past choices, but his direction for the future.
“I was drawn to this story because it’s a great tale about one man’s journey,” said Robert Duvall. “And about how you survive life’s unexpected curve balls.”
“We’re honored to have Mr. Duvall join our amazing cast,” said producer Mark G. Mathis. “To have such a stellar talent come together on our project speaks to the quality of the story. “
SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA is being produced by Mark G. Mathis (Brick, Precious) and Jason M. Berman (The Dry Land). Executive Producers are Ken Herfurth, Phil Myers, Robert Carliner and Lucas Black. The film was cast by Mary Vernieu and Lindsay Graham.

Just saw Get Low and looking forward to seeing this new project which looks excellent. I am a huge Robert Duvall fan and have also been a fan of the very talented Lucas Black for years as well. You can’t go wrong with this one.
The addition of 2011 Oscar® winner Melissa Leo (Best Supporting Actress) to the already prestigious cast elevates this film to a Sure Bet! Can’t wait to see it.
